McCaleb has a new theory. It stroke him when he found out that Gloria's cross earring was stolen, that her death was not due to a mere robbery. Gloria was chosen by the killer. She was a prey. And if he is correct, then James Cordell must have been chosen too. Thus, the killer probably stole something from him too. That's why McCaleb decides to go where Jame's Cordell live try to find out what might be missing.
